Hamzah (ء) is not in the song — the traditional Arabic alphabet song covers 28 letters. However, Hamzah is the 29th letter and you still need to recognise and identify it in the Practice Letter Grid and the Play & Learn Game below!

Learn the 29 individual letters of the Arabic alphabet and master their basic pronunciation rules. Look out for the 7 'Full-Mouth Giants' that fill your mouth with a thick sound, and practice locking your lips for the 25 letters that must be pronounced with still lips!
Compound Letters & Shapes (الحروف المركبة والأشكال)
Learn how Arabic letters connect to form compound words. Practice recognizing letters in their four positions (Beginning, Middle, End, and Isolated), identifying them purely by their dots when their skeleton shapes look identical, and spelling each letter separately by name.
Fathah (فتحة)
Learn the short vowel Fatḥah (َ). It sits on top of a letter and produces a quick 'a' sound. Read it in exactly 1 count without any stretching.
Kasrah (كسرة)
Learn the short vowel Kasrah (ِ). It sits underneath a letter and produces a quick 'i' sound. Read it in exactly 1 count without any stretching.
Dammah (ضمة)
Learn the short vowel Dammah (ُ). It sits on top of a letter and produces a quick 'u' sound with rounded lips. Read it in exactly 1 count without any stretching.
Sukūn, Qalqalah & Hams/Sakta (for ك and ت)
Learn to read letters carrying a Sukūn (Jazm), representing the absence of a vowel. Master the echoing Qalqalah sound for (ق , ط , ب , ج , د) and the soft breath flow (Hams) for (ك and ت).
Double Consonant (Tashdīd) & Wajib Ghunnah
Learn to read doubled consonants (Mushaddadah). A letter with a Tashdīd (ّ) is read twice: first connecting with the preceding letter, then with its own vowel. Nūn and Mīm with Tashdīd must have a 2-count Ghunnah.
The Fatḥatān (Double Fathah)
Learn to read Double Fathah (The Fatḥatān). It produces the nasalized '-an' sound. An Alif seat is written after most letters, but is silent. Hamzah and Tā Marbūṭah do not need an Alif.
The Kasratān (Double Kasrah)
Learn to read Double Kasrah (The Kasratān). It produces the nasalized '-in' sound. Double Kasrah is written under the letter.
The Ḍammatān (Double Dammah)
Learn to read Double Dammah (The Ḍammatān). It produces the nasalized '-un' sound. Double Dammah is written over the letter.
Tashdīd with Tanwīn
Practice reading letters carrying both a Tashdīd (doubling stress) and a Tanwīn (double vowel). First hold the double stress, then release with the nasalized diacritic.
The 'A' Elongations (Fatḥah / Zabar)
Elongate the Fatḥah vowel sound for exactly 2 counts when followed by an empty silent Alif (Alif Maddah) or when carrying a Standing Fatḥah (Khari Zabar).
The 'I' Elongations (Kasrah / Zayr)
Elongate the Kasrah vowel sound for exactly 2 counts when followed by a Yā Sākinah (Yā Maddah) or when carrying a Standing Kasrah (Khari Zayr).
The 'U' Elongations (Ḍammah / Paysh)
Elongate the Ḍammah vowel sound for exactly 2 counts when followed by a Wāw Sākinah (Wāw Maddah) or when carrying an Inverted Ḍammah (Ulti Pesh).
