• Fatḥah (فتحة):A short diagonal line on top of a letter. Read quickly (1 count) by opening the mouth and raising the voice, without stretching or jerking.

Pronunciation Tip: Heavy & Light Letters (Tafkhīm & Tarqīq)

Seven letters خ, ص, ض, ط, ظ, غ, ق are always pronounced with a full, thick mouth (Tafkhīm). The letter Rā (ر) also becomes thick when carrying a Fathah (رَ). Keep all other letters light and thin (Tarqīq).
