Lesson 7: Double Consonant (Tashdīd) & Wajib Ghunnah
Learn to read doubled consonants (Mushaddadah). A letter with a Tashdīd (ّ) is read twice: first connecting with the preceding letter, then with its own vowel. Nūn and Mīm with Tashdīd must have a 2-count Ghunnah.
Nūn (نّ) and Mīm (مّ) with Tashdīd carry a compulsory **2-count nasal hold (Ghunnah)**. *Try pinching your nose: if the sound doesn't cut off completely, your Ghunnah is incorrect!*
When any Qalqalah letter (**ق, ط, ب, ج, د**) carries a Tashdīd (e.g. تَبَّ or حَقَّ), you must hold the connection with **extra stress and force** before releasing the bouncing sound.
Skip any silent letter (no diacritic) directly before a Tashdīd letter. Also, if you stop (*Waqf*) on a word ending with a Tashdīd, **the doubled stress and hold must still be maintained** even as the vowel goes silent.
