Lesson 12: The 'A' Elongations (Fatḥah / Zabar)

Elongate the Fatḥah vowel sound for exactly 2 counts when followed by an empty silent Alif (Alif Maddah) or when carrying a Standing Fatḥah (Khari Zabar).

Rules for this lesson

• Alif Maddah:Prolong for 2 counts when an empty Alif follows a letter with Fatḥah.

• Standing Fatḥah (Khari Zabar):A vertical stroke that functions as a shorthand Alif Maddah, prolonging the sound for 2 counts.

Alif Maddah (A-Elongation)

When a letter with Fatḥah is followed by an empty silent Alif (e.g. بَا), prolong the 'A' sound for exactly **2 counts** (equivalent to 1 Alif).

Standing Fatḥah / Khari Zabar

A vertical stroke above a letter (e.g. بٰ) that functions exactly like an Alif Maddah, elongating the sound for **2 counts**.
